NAMIWNV is looking for volunteers to train to teach our confidential andfree-to-participants Basics program. Basics is a six session course forparents, foster parents, grandparents and caregivers of children who are livingwith mental health challenges. The ideal candidate would be an adult whosupported a youth who exhibited mental health concerns before age 14. Basics isa course for family members and other caregivers who support this special childin the school, the clinic and sometimes the juvenile justice system.

The course includes information and discussion on disorders, treatments, medications, communication, child advocacy, record keeping and self-care forthe caregiver. NAMI does not advocate for specific treatments; our courseprovides current information to aid the caregiver in informed decision-makingwith school, clinic and other child supportive services.

We have an extensive NAMIBasics program in Spanish in the western NAMI WNV counties and are working todevelop Spanish teaching teams in other rural and frontier counties. If aBasics teacher candidate is bilingual and takes the training in English, wehave manuals, materials and support for NAMI Bases y Fundamentos, our popularSpanish program.

Thanksin advance for helping us recruit NAMI Basics teachers in your community.
